Katie Walthall Mehnert is the founder and chief executive officer of Pink Petro™, the first and only social media community for women in energy aimed specifically at disrupting and closing the gender gap. Backed by industry innovators, Halliburton and Shell, Pink Petro unites, connects, develops, and grows women in energy, integrating men in the process. Since inception it’s grown to nearly 20 countries, and received numerous international and trade press accolades.
Katie has 18 years of delivering change, learning, and culture transformations. Mehnert also is the president of Cognovi Communications, which provides strategic change management solutions to the energy industry. As a ‘People Engineer’, she enables companies to cut through waste, deliver value and focused sustainable solutions to operational, safety, and talent challenges.
Prior to Cognovi, Mehnert held significant safety leadership roles with Big Oil operators British Petroleum and Royal Dutch Shell worldwide. Her most notable assignment was with the BP executive team on a turnaround program in competence management after the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
Katie serves on the board of the Offshore Energy Center and the executive council of Ellevate. Katie has been awarded the Top 30 Most Influential Women in Houston, Who’s Who in Energy, named Top 5 Houstonians to Know, and the Vanguard Award in STEM by Girls, Inc. She is a graduate of Louisiana State University, Rice University’s Executive Energy program and The Center for Houston’s Future.
Katie authors a business column for Singapore Straits Times, speaks internationally, and is a four-time World Major marathoner having completed London, Chicago, New York and Berlin. She and her husband, Mark, Associate General Counsel with GE Oil and Gas, live in Energy Corridor with their 4-year old daughter, Ally.
